Brief 形容時間很短，Brief illness 意思是生病時間很短，或者說疾病來得很突然。這句新聞意思是這位吉他手生了一場病，然后很快就死了。

英文關(guān)于疾病，最常見的說法當然是 illness，它可以用來指任何病痛、大病或小病。當然，小病可以說 a small illness，重病可以說 a serious illness，a terminal illness 則是不治之癥。
Sickness 意思和 illness 接近，但它還可以指惡心，想嘔吐。比如暈船叫 seasickness，暈車叫 carsickness，暈機叫 airsickness，或者統(tǒng)稱 travel-sickness 或 moving-sickness。
除此之外，還有一些詞，也可以表示疾病，只是程度或種類有所不同：
Disease：比較嚴重、并且有病征的疾病
Complaint：一些毛病例如頭暈、頭痛。
Condition：表示病痛時聽起來或會委婉一點。
Ailment：經(jīng)常患的病痛，通常是較輕微。
Indisposition：非常輕微的病痛。
